Ride Your Dark Horse "Light"

by Karen E Nowak 5/2010

(The following article was written for horses but the premise of the work is the same for any animal and for our internal work.)

Humans acclimatize to their surroundings from birth. As children we draw conclusions from what is taught to us by our culture, family, religion, government and educational system. We build an internalstructure from external influences.  Part of what we become is created through an evaluation system of our personal performance that is taught to us through these same channels. With our cognitive abilities we make assumptions that we believe as truths.   21st Century thinking fostered our belief in media and marketing rhetoric, veering us away from trusting the internal self, knowing the internal self, and making decisions from the internal self.

Is your head spinning yet?  Are you saying “what is this woman talking about?” For many of us it is difficult to wrap our minds around and contemplate thoughts that are about how we think and process. It is an accepted belief that our minds run the show, navigating the structure of the world we see. It is also widely believed that, what we see in our world creates who we are inside, how we feel and what our world consists of. We are continually discouraged to think otherwise.

What If…

The reverse was true and your outside world is a reflection of your inside thoughts, beliefs and perceptions.
And…

What if another part of you could build a relationship with your horse that went beyond what the mind delegated as correct, acceptable, or even possible?

Horses are guided in their lives by instinctual behavior. The inwardness of who they are is intact. They make decisions drawn from the essence of who they are. Horses acclimatize to their environment, but do not forget their core abilities.

In learning from and working with our horses we observe the animal’s behavior and attempt to fit it into how we have learned, through the decisions we have made about our life. We process information garnered from previous lessons learned from the outside of us.

Our animals feel that is part of their survival mechanism. They feel beyond emotions. They live processing vibrations that surround them in their world. They make decisions from what they sense coming from you. They will mirror and adapt to the vibrations they sense radiating from us that enables the relationship to be what it has morphed into.

What if there is more to life and our relationship with our horse?

·         What if the vocal chords are not the only means of communication? And

·         What if the ways in which we have come to our relationship with our horse has limited the depths our relationship can attain?

·         What if there is more? And

·           What if it does not require you to learn to “communicate” with your horse but instead you build from within you, from your inner knowing that you already have.

·           What if you could develop your inner skills that have lain dormant within you that do not require you to mimic a technique?

What if you could allow developing from the perfection and brilliance of you and processing what you learn to make it your own and not just attempt to imitate someone else?

·       What if you and your horse were able to meet in a space they required neither of you to be right or wrong in what you present to each other?

·          What if… what you acclimatized to, is not all there is to choose from when we build who we are on the inside?

How liberated your relationship with your horse would be!

We all posses a place inside of self which is uniquely us. This place is Untouched, Unchanged, and waiting to BE Uncovered. It does not require that you buy a special tool or learn a secret technique.

What it does ASK of you is:

·         Commitment to Self

·         Committing to allowing for new perspectives

·         Committing to allowing for new possibilities

·         Not to judge your Self.

·         To take responsibility for only half of the equation with your horse

And to be a whole partner in your half of the relationship.

·         To allow your horse to be the other half.

Beginning to develop self trust in remembering you are mirroring in your life what you have come to believe is you, and not judging it, is a choice only you can make. If the possibility that leaving behind new age rhetoric, old worn out thinking, and  dead ends in your life and with your horse ignites a spark, it is a choice what you will do with it.

If you were expecting yet another technique, secret, or easy answer, you won’t find anything but the simplicity of your beginning to build within you, a knowing and trusting of self. Getting caught up in old techniques and miracle secrets to your success is new age rhetoric that spirals you back to failure time and again.  Whoever is promising to transform your life or your relationship with your horse can not deliver if you have not made a commitment to your Self to process from within without judgment. And to commit to the time it takes to expand your perspective and possibilities.  Marketing, the media and our society all support the quick fix, the instant answer.  Taking time and committing to the paths that might open before you, does not fit the criteria of what we have been sold on how to live our lives. We have bonded to thoughts that require we search an old data base within us, believing we are looking within self for the answers. Who created the data base?  Is it possible it is not all there is?

In the simplicity of transforming your relationship with your horse lies the perceived difficulty. What are you going to CHOOSE?

·         The quick fix

·         Belief in a perceived barrier

And to be a whole partner in your half of the relationship.

·         To allow your horse to be the other half.
